![]() ![]() The information has been used to identify and interpret regional patterns in prehistoric chronology, settlement, mobility and exchange, resource use and technology, and ideology. Statistical data have been incorporated into a Geographical Information System (GIS) database. The archaeological information has been extracted from previous archaeological reports and site records. Contexts in regional geography and the ethnographic record are discussed. It is closely linked with a parallel study for the 544-km2 Jacumba/McCain Valley region that lies immediately to the east. This study presents a perspective on prehistoric archaeological landscapes for the Ocotillo region that encompasses 530 km2 in southwestern Imperial County and southeastern San Diego County. ![]() ![]() Emphasis has been placed on supplementing conventional standardized site types with more specific site attributes in order to overcome the inherent problems with application of site typology to a diverse archaeological record made during the course of more than five decades. It is closely linked with a parallel study for the 530-km2 Ocotillo region that lies immediately to the east. This study presents a perspective on prehistoric archaeological landscapes for a region that encompasses 544 km2 in McCain Valley, Jacumba Valley, In-Ko-Pah Gorge, and associated areas in southeastern San Diego County and southwestern Imperial County. ![]()
